For the second consecutive year, CHRA will be holding its academic conference, “Conflict-Con”. This year, the conference is set to be held on January 24th-27th, 2019. The conference will involve a diverse array of events and exercisesa centered around the study of conflict and human rights. Guests will include academics, embassies, NGOs, professors, activists, and others involved in the academic discipline. For students and attendees, the event serves as a unique networking opportunity, as well as a learning experience that transcends a typical lecture. For guests, the conference serves to give exposure to those involved in the study of conflict and human rights, and the important work they are doing.

Each day has a particular theme that will be reflected in the types of events being held:

Thursday, January 24th, 2019: “Lenses” will discuss different frameworks through which one can analyze the discipline of conflict and human rights

Friday, January 25th, 2019: “Beyond” will look at the modern and relevant issues of conflict and human rights occurring beyond Canadian borders

Saturday, January 26th, 2019: “Within” will address Canada’s colonial history, and modern Indigenous conflicts/human rights issues that have resulted from Canadian colonialism

Sunday, January 27th, 2019: “Action” will allow participants to explore different career pathways in the discipline of conflict and human rights

The types of events hosted throughout the conference will include panels, workshops, film screenings, CHRA’s very first “Human Library” featuring professors of the program, book launches, guided discussions over breakfast, a keynote speaker, a wine and cheese, and more!
